There are many antagonistic characters that continue to plague the world of Sanctuary to this very day, and although Lilith has now been confirmed to be the main baddie in Diablo 4, another could also be making a cameo as well – Lord of Destruction, Tor’Baalos!
The Diablo series has many different villains whom continue to jeopardize countless innocent lives for the sake of power and glory.
Among them is none other than the Lord of Destruction itself, Tor’Baalos – shortened as Baal!
As the Prime Evil of its own Burning Hell which is the Realm of Destruction, Baal is known to be ruthless and merciless when it comes to destroying its enemies, even as far as enjoying the acts too!
With Diablo 4’s complete narrative still unclear, there is still a chance that Baal could certainly pop up somewhere within the new game, maybe even considered to be amongst the main conspirators for the overall plot as well.
BAAL, LORD OF DESTRUCTION: CHAPTER ONE
Similar to Mephisto, Baal was also created from one of the decomposing heads of Tathamet since time innumerable.
Considered to be a Prime Evil alongside Mephisto and Diablo, Tor’Baalos (as he is formally called) reigns supreme inside its own Burning Hell which is the Realm of Destruction.
Baal is ruthless yet cunning too, enjoying its enemies’ agonies and pain while torturing them endlessly.
Throughout the Great Conflict, there was a point where both Heaven and Hell fought at Pandemonium, the designated realm where the Worldstone was located.
Here, although Mephisto had ordered the Demons to withhold their attacks as the Angels were retreating due to some unforeseen circumstance, it was Baal who pressed on with their charges, adamant in destroying their foes.
Unsurprisingly, it was Baal that first found out about the missing Worldstone because of this (from the Demons’ side), and smartly noticed Lilith’s absence to suspect the demon’s involvement in all this.
When the Nephalem were first discovered by the Prime Evils, Baal and the others acknowledged their potential and sought to use them in order to finally overcome the forces of the High Heavens.
This led to the creation of the Triune in Sanctuary – a religious cult which worships all the three (3) Prime Evils as benevolent deities – to manipulate the minds of all the Nephalem and subsequent humans that come after.
Remodeled itself as Bala, Spirit of Creation, their attempts were countered by the formation of the Cathedral of Light which was the Angel, Inarius’ plan to contain the influence of the Triune.
After the High Heavens knew of the existence of Sanctuary, a brief truce was made between them and the Burning Hells in which both will no longer partake in any of humanity’s affairs on the world, allowing them to fulfil their own fates.
However, the Burning Hells had demands of their own too, which resulted in Inarius being imprisoned and tortured by Mephisto for eternity while Baal could have his way with all of Inarius’ followers afterwards.
It would seem that humans were now free from the manipulations of both Angels and Demons from then onwards, but Baal and its peers still made plans to continue their aspirations in swaying the Nephalem’s descendants into joining the Demon’s side for the never-ending Great Conflict.
In Chapter Two, we will look further into Baal’s involvements in Diablo 2’s events, so make sure to stay around for that!
